Peony styled flower tutorial - Part two

Hi guys, If your seeing this and you missed my first part yesterday you may want to watch that first, it basically showed the petal dies I used and how I coloured them,
if you have already watched that then grab a cuppa and we will begin part two!! lol

So here are my coloured petals, ready to be made up to form a Peony type flower,
also shown are some stamens for the center of my flower, any ones in your stash will do,( some wire and an iron on a medium heat setting, no steam),sorry not shown, I get my wire off my hubby but you can buy wire especially for flower making, a foam pad of some description, mine is a washing up pad with a dry wet wipe wrapped around it, some wire cutters, cotton thread, a ball tool  2  light bulbs , sorry one not shown!! but more on that later,

Take your smallest sized petal and hold it against the iron for a few seconds, I find a wooden skewer helps a lot here, saves burnt fingers!!

then place it on top of your foam pad, and press down with your ball tool,

It will look similar to this when you have done the above step,

Holding the petal in your hand and keeping the bottom edge of your petal held between your thumb and finger as shown, scrunch the top end together and twist backwards and forwards a few times, slightly pulling up as you twist, not hard though, easing it!!

This is the look your after,

Take the petal and start slightly stretching and gently easing it in the middle part of the flower with your fingers,

Coax the petal rather then pulling it as doing it too hard can tear the foamiran,

Slightly cup the petal too, as shown below, do this for all the smaller petals,

Here is a few of the petals shaped and ready to be used,

You do the same process for the next sized petals but this time I used a bulb for a car headlamp, again off hubby, I used this because I didn't have a big enough ball tool at the time but you can buy them if you wish,
Here is the bulb I used, if you do use one similar take extra care because of course they are made out of glass,

So I did the same heating my petal on the iron then palcing it on my foam pad pressing it down with the bulb,

Then again do the scrunching, stretching and shaping of the petals, as before,

For the largest petals, I did exactly the same steps but I used a large bulb to press my petals onto the foam pad,

As you can see this isn't quite as shaped but it does help to scrunch up the petals as before,

Tomorrow I will do another tutorial on how to put the flower together,
Again if you have any questions just ask,

Happy Crafting!!

Peony flower tutorial part one - colouring the petals

Hi guys, I'm back with the first part of a tutorial for some Peonies that I made a few weeks back, this part of the tutorial will cover how I coloured the petals,

For this tutorial you will need:

Craft Passion Peony die
0.6 Foamiran white or off white
Olive Green 0.6 Foamiran
Wire,
 Floral Tape,
Medium ( Oil Pastels)
Stamens
Tutororial: part one

I used the die cuts from the Peony die plus I hand made another in between the smallest and next sized petal up as I wanted one in between the sizes, as shown above

I used two colours of  Pentel Oil Pastel for these petals , Crimson number 38 as shown above and Ochre Number 33
Add some of the oil pastel onto a piece of foam, I cut up a washing up sponge into pieces,
My foamiran wasn't white,(sorry I can't remember exactly which colour it was) and  I have found the colours do slightly alter depending on the base colour of the foamiran you use,

I like the colours to be varied on my petals, so I coloured them in the two colours differently on the petals, here I used the Crimson on the top left, just going slightly lower then the top edge,
This is then also done on the reverse of the petal as shown below,

You can go over this once, or as many times as you like to get the colour you wish to achieve, the more you add layers the darker or more intense the colour can become, remember to do both sides of your petals,

I then coloured the other top edge with the Ochre colour, and down the side, I often vary one side to the other with how far down I go with the colour too,
ie, the crimson is as far down the petal as my finger but I went further down the Ochre colour on the other edge, this is entirely up to you, it is your flower and your petals, lol

Here is another petal where I have started colouring along the top and down one side, I would then do the Ochre colour on the rest of the petal top and down the other side,

Here the Crimson is in the middle part of the petal I then coloured with the Ochre at the sides shown below,
As you can see I have varied the colour on the petals, basically just placing it where it felt right,

I sometimes blend the colours slightly were they meet, as seen above on the left of the petal,

So basically I do this for all the petal sizes, as shown below,

Shown here are the products you will need to make up the Peony styled flowers I have made,
but that will be in part two,
shown tomorrow,

I hope you will see me here then,
any questions just leave me a comment or write me an e-mail, addy on my side bar,

Tilda With Little Snowy

Hi guys, I'm here today with some inspiration for
Swedish House Crafts
Suha our lovely lady owner has some fabulous products in her online store, some of them Swedish designs so rarely seen over in Britain and have you seen the prices, so  well worth a visit!!!
all my links below,
Anyway enough of my babble, here is my card!!

I know can you believe I've done a Christmas card before November!!!
Well Suha has so many fabulous products in her store and while browsing noticed the Christmas section and Ta Da an idea started forming in my head,

Tilda with little Snowy is one of the gorgeous Magnolia products in store, I just love her cute little snowman, Don't you? if like me you always think of Snow at Christmas even if we rarely get it, but maybe where you live you do!!
I coloured her up with my distress re-inkers and added some texture paste round the Stitched oval die by Gummiapan for a little snow effect,

So when we have snow we build Snowmen, so Tilda got another Snowman as a friend too, this is a fabulous Gummiapan die which again after die cutting it out I coloured with my distress re-inkers to match,, these dies are such good value and cut a dream!!!

Another fabulous Gummiapan die is this adorable snowflake, I simply added a bit of bling from my stash but you could add glitter, texture paste, foil etc as well as cutting it up in a different colour for some leaf type effects, (Suha's fabulous idea) Lol,
The papers shown behind are a paper pad by Roxstamps Jul (Christmas) these are a real bargain!!

To finish off my card I added some cheesecloth again with the texture paste, and made some gorgeous flowers out of a beautiful flower die Suha has in her online store too, here I have cut them out with vellum, layered them up and added a little glitter on the petal edges of the larger ones,  as these dies come with 5 different sizes in the pack,
